I received a full knee replacement in January 2017 . During my recovery treatment, my back and hip flexor muscles tightened up making it difficult for me to walk. My therapist treated me with Astym therapy on various locations on my back and legs which helped loosen the tightness in my muscles allowing me to be able to perform my various exercises. The Astym therapy procedure considerably shortened my recovery period. Now I’m able to lead a normal life, walk for a distance, swim lengths in my pool and ride my bike for several miles. Thank you Astym therapy.

My left shoulder/neck had been hurting since January 2017 after carrying around a backpack vacuum around for six months. I had a myleogram done and that didn’t find anything wrong with me so then I had a steroid injection which didn’t help the pain. I had a MRI of my neck and then another of my shoulder and they both came out fine so I was referred to a pain management doctor who suggested I go to physical therapy and have astym therapy done. After 9 visits. Twice a week for four weeks I can say that I have very little pain.

I have an artificial hip and when I fall on it I get a severe muscle bruise and I cannot walk. Astym therapy eases the pain and relaxes the muscle to a point where I can put pressure on my leg and use my walker and get on my feet and walk.

When I started therapy after surgery I could barely move my shoulder. But after 5 to 6 sessions of Astym therapy I was almost reaching my goals that were set by my Dr. I graduated on 8-17-17, without Astym therapy I think I would still be in therapy another 3 to 4 weeks.

I had extensive shoulder surgery and suffered pain in the deltoid
Muscle. Ella suggested Astym therapy and I agreed. Astym therapy gave me the relief that I needed to do the required exercises to strengthen the shoulder. I would recommend this treatment to others. There is no discomfort just a form of a relaxing massage.

I’m 64 years old and was hit by a car while I was riding my bicycle about a year and half ago. It messed my left knee up pretty good along with some other things. The pain was pretty bad and didn’t go away after about a year. My doctor said that the only way I could get rid of the pain was to get a full knee replacement, so after talking to some people, and family who had it done, I went ahead and had the full knee replacement. It worked out pretty good for me, but what I want to talk to you about is the Physical Therapy I had to go through, and how the Astym treatment worked out for me. Cora Health where I went for my physical therapy has this lady who works there, her name is Hyacinth Wallace, she is the clinic manager there. She was the one told me about Astym Treatment, how it could help soften the muscle tissue. After the operation my leg and knee were really tight, and the area behind my left knee was hard, and made it difficult for me to get my full range of motion back in my left leg. When Hyacinth started the Astym treatments I could feel the change in the muscles and tissue all the way up my leg, and especially behind my left knee. I believe this treatment has really helped me to get most of my range of motion back in my left leg, and I’m not done with my physical therapy at this time. My range of motion is 0 to 120 degrees. So I’m feeling pretty good about how it’s working out for me. So check it out yourself.

I received Astym therapy for my forearm tightness and golfers elbow. I no longer having aching in my forearms after two treatments of Astym therapy. I also had a flair up for golfers elbow and received Astym therapy for that and it was gone in two days. I would definitely recommend this treatment to people around me.

So where do I begin? I will first start off by saying that I am not a very good writer but I wanted to share my story.
I got diagnosed with AML (a form of leukemia) on Jauary 18th 2016. It took a toll on my body not that my body was great before then but its defenitly got my bones feeling frail. I went through 5 rounds of chemo. After I finished my chemo I wanted to continue to walk to help me lose weight and to get my exercise. I was so determined that I started walking 5 miles a day.
I started getting pain in my knee, so much so that the pain would shoot up my leg and have me so squirmy to get comfortable. I was having trouble walking up and down stairs, in and out of the car, driving, and in and out of bed sometimes. I stopped walking because I was in so much pain afterward.
A month had gone by and my pain was not going away. I didn’t really know what to do for the pain so I just endured it. I finally decided to go to the doctor. She ordered X-rays on my knee and ordered physical therapy. I started going to the OSF Center for Health in Streator, Illinois. Joleen Hancock was my therapist she suggested that I try the Astym treatment. She was certain that my knee cap needed adjusted.
She proceeded with the treatment. I was very impressed the first time it was performed. Although it hurt like crazy and I screamed a little. I was in heaven as I walked out of there that day. It started working immediately and as treatment went on I loved going because I knew it would make me feel great.
I encountered a few other things as it went on. I could feel the difference in my legs because I was only being treated for the right knee my left knee would feel so tight. I did the stretches with both legs but because I was getting my muscles worked out on the one leg you could feel the tightness in the other. I also started having troubles with my hip. So the therapist had to adjust me so that i was lined up correctly and in place.
I also had to go back for therapy on my upper and lower back. The Astym treatment was performed on me this way as well. Again I would scream and Jolene would tell me ok lets not scare the other patients away. It helped me immediately. They gave me stretches to do and as long as I did my stretches I felt fine. I was able to start walking again.
I haven’t met my goal of my 5 miles a day yet but I’m working on it. I don’t have any more pain in my knee. I can walk up and down the stairs no problem. Getting in and out of my bed my leg doesn’t hurt any more when I drive. I feel so much better like I’m rejuvenated. I can now get on with my life continue to stretch out these muscles and fight to keep my body in remission. I am so glad that I got to experience the Astym treatment and would definitely recommend it to everyone.

As a student who spends 8-10 hours a day in front of a computer or studying from a textbook, I am all too familiar with neck and upper back pain. I came to TOPS Physical Therapy in search of some exercises and stretches, but I found my greatest relief from the manual therapy and Astym therapy performed by the skilled physical therapy staff.
Not only did Astym therapy decrease the overall tension and soreness in my neck, but I also experienced great relief from the headaches I had been experiencing intermittently for the last 3 years. In addition to the “TOPS” notch treatment I received at TOPS Physical Therapy, I was also educated on the effect neck tightness can have on brain circulation which may also explain the increase in concentration levels post Astym treatment. Thank you TOPS Physical Therapy and Astym therapy for providing me with an awesome experience and a fast return to pain free studying.

I’ve been going to TOPS since its inception, the staff and I have been through a few surgeries, This time we took on pregnancy. Having had 2 shoulders, double mastectomy with reconstruction and a back surgery, I knew my body would need help on this 9 month journey.
I didn’t want to do any damage to my joints or have undue stress on my back. As an avid swimmer gaining 30 plus pounds is a whole change and shock to my body. I would go in 1-2 times per week for maintenance therapy. As my weight increased and belly grew, my pain and tightening of muscles would shift too. Amy and Chad were able to keep my pelvis in alignment, and address my tightening fascia to allow me to continue to exercise at a high level.
The use of Astym therapy helped me get relief and the treatment worked great with the rest of my programs. They also had programs designed to adjust with my progress. A very strong core and pelvic floor is key to a healthy pregnancy. I wanted to maintain these key muscle groups to reduce unnecessary stress on my low back, shoulders, and hips.
Furthermore, pregnancy is full of leg cramps! Add working out on top and you are primed for the worst cramps of your life. As a pharmacist, I was taking my full vitamin regimen with extra calcium and magnesium to help with these cramps. You also can’t do too much salt when pregnant or you will swell. Again, my weekly PT sessions worked on my legs and the cramping was reduced. Astym therapy also helped this issue! Even though there was some discomfort in the moment, the results in the end are totally worth it! I can’t say enough about the staff at TOPS. I love them!
